Novel Playlist: Charlotte Denson

Dear Kyle Chase,

I am sending you this letter because I have put a playlist together that I think you would like to listen to. The songs are "Liquor," "Watch me Whip," "Fight Song," and "Chains."
The first song I chose for you is "Liquor" by Chris Brown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urFQkMwx7TY . This would be a good song for you because you want a girlfriend and you like to drink: “'Trick or treat” he says and tosses you a can of Oden Bach beer” ( ).

The second song I chose for you is "Watch me Whip" by Silento https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1Fm-YsAlzA . This would be a good song for you because you like to party to dance, too: "Where did it go wrong the party?” ( ).

The third song I chose for you is "Fight Song" by Rachel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQhGnNEFtPk . This would be a good song for you because you are a very strong person and you have been in a lot of fights and you like to start them; “Besides, if he would have swung, I would have been on him” ( ).

The last song I chose for you is Chains by Nick Jonas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IiEGJ2CKD8. This would be a good song for you because you like that girl Ashley and this is a love songs and she does you wrong. “You nod, but you’re thinking about Ashley Bianchi, which you’ve been doing sense June…..”

                                                                       Sincerely,
                                                                                          Charlotte Denson

Novel Playlist

Dear Matt,

I picked out a playlist of songs that in my own opinion you can really relate to them. The first song is “Just Keep Swimming” by Ellen DeGeneres because towards the end of the book when your scared that you letting your team down in the championship you get really scared. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsemWIZUk4k .So I felt it just really fit. " I can see the end of the swim lane... Everything burns. My muscles, my lungs, my eyes"  ( ).

My second song would be “I’m Just a Kid” by Simple Plan. I felt this song fir because you are indeed just a kid and you can’t be holding all that weight of the swim team on your shoulders.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9gz0Z9yV1k. " We can't win the meet unless you take first. You might as well save yourself the embarrassment."

The third song I picked is “BRAVE” by SARA BAREILLES. I picked this song because you took it like a man during the championship and even though you felt all alone you still accepted the challenge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyAfjUHlFSM. " If you want to bail, Gratton, it won't matter now... I'm going to swim."

My final song would be “All I Do Is by Win” DJ Khaled because you did end up winning and you felt amazing when your swim team ran shouting your name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eWmnhOIW0k. As your  friends said "You did it! You did it!" You were so overwhelmed and excited you definitely gained some respect that day.

                                                                Sincerely, Devon Campbell

Novel Playlist

                To Hercules,

Hello, my name is Noah and I have put together a playlist of music for you. The first song is called Neverland by Abstract, it start off slow and then picks up. The beat of the song isn’t very consistent but I guarantee you will like it. A quote from the song is “Some call it music, but I call it Neverland.”

The second song is called Spectre by Alan Walker.  Just like the first song, it starts off slow but picks up really quick. The beat makes you want to smile, it drops and you feel the bass. There aren’t any quotes because it’s just music, there are no vocals.

The third song is called Adventure Time by Music Predators. I know what you’re thinking, why is this kid giving me the TV show theme song. WRONG. It is just a really fast paced song, it kind of goes along with how you acted in Cincinnati. Judging by how the book went, you “lived life in the fast lane.” You will love the song.

The fourth song is called Electro-Light by Symbolism. The name of the song just tells you how it will light you up on the inside and if you want to show it on the outside, then go right ahead. But I would not recommend it if you don’t want to get embarrassed in front of people. This song isn’t exactly fast or slow paced. It’s right in the middle.

The name of the final song is My City by Packy. The song starts off slow and doesn’t really pick up at all. Not saying it’s a slow song but it’s not a fast song. A quote from the song is “Ima go and get, pick it up, and bring it to my city. You will love the songs, I promise.

                                                                                Sincerely, Noah H.

P.S. I loved how your character played a huge part in the book,  hope to read more about you one day or even go back and read 12 Things to do Before You Crash and Burn.

                                                         Novel Playlist

                                Song 1- Sara Bareilles- Brave

Quote: "She listened to everything that happened, and she told me I was brave"(28).

I chose this song as reference to the quote that I've chosen from my book, Wintergirls, because they both have a   connection. One example of how they're both alike, is because in the quote/book Wintergirls Lia the main character, is telling Cassie how she's struggling by not eating to become skinny. Cassie who is also striving to become the skinniest girl as well tells Lia "you're brave". This starts to bring up a connection between the book/quote and the song. The song is similar to the book, because the lyrics and the title basically explains itself well. The song Brave explains how the "person" in the song is strong, and nothing can hurt him/her.

                                Song 2- Laslo Slomovits- I didn't stop

Quote: "I'm so hungry, but I have to stay strong"(156).

I chose this song as a reference for not giving up, because this quote is about the struggle of Lia trying to not give in to her stomach and eat. In the story Lia had encounter many foods, but told herself not to eat, and to stay strong. In the song I didn't stop was about the singer trying to encourage the audience to not give up, and the singer also explains how he encountered obstacles but overcame them. Furthermore I thought that this song was a pretty good reference to the quote, and also the story of Lia's adventure to becoming skinny.

                               Song 3-TLC- UnPretty

Quote: "I am disgusting, horribly fat"(128).

I chose "UnPretty" as a reference to the quote from "Wintergirls" because they both shared a the same problem which was insecurities. This quote explains how Lia didn't just only have a goal to become the skinniest girl, but because she was so obsessed with becoming skinny she started to have insecurities, thinking she's fat and ugly every time she ate too much. The song "UnPretty" is similar also to Lia's insecurity problem. "UnPretty" is about a singer talking about how she had to deal with her insecurities when hanging out with the person she's close with, this relates to Lia because Cassie, Lia's bestfriend, who died is haunting her, saying that she is fat, furthermore quenching her insecurity.

Song 4-Hatfield Juliana- Until I Almost Died

Quote: "They told me I was in the hospital for ten days. I slept. Dreamless"(274).

Until I almost died is a reference to the quote from "Wintergirls" on page 274, because both song and book character writes about how they both almost died. In the chapter Lia is at motel at where Cassie had previously died at, Lia was trying to run away from all her problems by running away with a friend, but in the end he declined her offer and request, and he even told her that what she is trying to do was wrong, leaving her at the motel. Lia was very weak in this specific chapter and tried to go back home from the motel but she fainted knowing that she will die, but then wakes up in a hospital finding herself alive but "slept dreamless". The song Until I Almost Died relates to this topic mainly because the singer sings about how he/she almost died, "When my body gave out, it was so, so weak until I almost died". This quote from the song convinced me that it is similar to the quote in "Wintergirls".

                                                     Reasons for posting

My intentions of sending this playlist is to show the reader how the story in "Wintergirls" can relate to not only songs, but real life experiences. For example Staying strong, trying to not give up on what you want. Or being brave, if your doing something that is risky but it'll will help accomplish your goal then you have to be brave. Also insecurities, everyone is insecure about many things but never really show it, and this happens a lot IRL. And another example is to learn that sometimes doing something you want could end up hurting yourself, in "Wintergirls", and even songs to prove it.
